Personal Reflection

I find the topic of discrimination against women rather confronting and personal. I believe the way some women are treated and expected to behave in some countries is appalling and really quite sad. It’s crazy to think that even still, in this day and age, Muslim women and girls are still considered the minority in society. It really is time for something to change. It is so unbelievably unfair how in a country like Australia, women have the right to their voice, a right to vote, a right to safety, and even the right to run for Prime Minster if they desired. Yet, in many Middle Eastern countries, women cannot even show their face in public, and must cover head to toe in a burka, and don’t have a say in whom they wed. The unjustness of it all is really quite awful.

I find the case of Malala Yousafzai extremely devastating. This poor, innocent girl was simply standing up for her right to an education, which was incredibly courageous. It is so disgusting how the Taliban attempted to assassinate a 15-year-old girl for being passionate about education rights and for being willing to learn. I commend Malala for her actions and activism, and from the bottom of my heart wish her a well recovery and safe future.

There really is no need for men to be the superior, as I believe women are completely capable of everything a man is. In fact, women are to be applauded for everything they do. In modern Western society, women are expected to bare children, raise and run their family, put their children’s lives and heath before their own, yet still be a part of the workforce and earn money. If Muslim women were given the chance to do all of that, I think they would receive the recognition they deserve as an equal citizen of their country.

Females deserve power. They deserve a voice. They deserve equality.
